Frequently asked questions about Reiki?

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Some report a warmth, others sense a tingling in areas that are being worked on. Many have reported miraculous results.

HOW DOES REIKI WORK?

Life force is flowing within our physical bodies through pathways called chakras, meridians and nadis, and around our aura, a field of energy. Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy.

The life force is responsive to our thoughts and feelings so when we accept, either consciously or subconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings; they attach themselves to the energy field and cause disruptions in the flow of life force. Reiki raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts and feelings are attached, causing the negative energy to break apart and fall away. In doing so, Reiki clears, unblocks and heals any disruptions in the energy pathways, allowing a healthy and natural flow of life force whilst also increasing the “life force energy” within the body.

HOW IS A REIKI TREATMENT GIVEN?

In Reiki treatments energy flows from the practitioner’s hands into the client. The client can be either laying down or seated, whichever is preferred and remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her/his hands on or near the client’s body in a series of hand positions, including around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. The whole treatment usually lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS FROM A REIKI TREATMENT?

Most of the time a client will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, occasionally due to a person’s vibration increasing, toxins that have been stored in the body can be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person may feel weak, get a headache or stomach ache. If this happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. This is a sign that the body is cleansing as part of the healing process.
